The Therapy Dogs Program has been one of the most visible services of St. John Ambulance in Ontario since 1992. It began as a pilot program in Peterborough and has spread across Canada. The dogs bring comfort, joy, and companionship to members of the community who are sick, lonely, or reside in long-term care and mental health facilities. The dogs go to hospitals, schools, libraries, airports, and places where terrible tragedies have occurred. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Museum has three out-of-print therapy dog books. They are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henry’s There to Care<\/em> by Karin McLean, 2022. Karin McLean is a children’s book author and artist, as well as the owner of therapy dog Henry. She wrote and illustrated Henry’s There to Care<\/em>, which shows Henry visiting patients in hospitals and bringing them comfort and joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Adventures of Pal the Therapy Dog<\/em>. This is a children’s book showing therapy dogs visiting people in a variety of settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pet First Aid Manual.<\/em> This first aid manual for pets was published in association with the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
