This is what is called a “number 1 dress uniform” today. Unlike modern dress uniforms, this is an older version with a closed collar. Today’s dress uniforms have an open collar and are worn with a tie.
This uniform belonged to Percy G. Lumbers, circa 1945. The three bars on the lower sleeve are service bar badges, awarded at one bar per three years of service with a minimum of 60 hours of service in that year. Percy G. Lumbers had 3 bars, so he has served at least 9 years.
The St. John Ambulance Brigade rank insignia, worn on the shoulder straps, are missing, so we do not currently known what rank Percy G. Lumbers held.
